Ruby and Aoife's Challenge 2016

St Basils would like to say a huge thank you to Ruby Hodges and Aoife Hay,  now aged 17,  whose year-long fundraiser ‘Challenge 2016’ has raised £3,587.75! The girls challenged themselves to complete a different fundraising challenge each month of 2016, all related to the number 2016, and with the target of raising £2,016 – which they've absolutely smashed!

The challenges were extremely varied – some of our favourites include a 216km cycle (pictured), swimming 2016m and a 16 hour Danceathon! Ruby and Aoife also climbed over 2016m up and down Snowdon, made 201 care packages for St Basils residents and lived off £20.16 worth of food for a week. They described it as ‘a year to remember’, something we certainly agree with!

Ruby and Aoife’s commitment to helping St Basils has been amazing throughout the year – keeping going throughout their GCSE exams and even taking part in our Big SleepOut. Their enthusiasm for fundraising has been incredible, and is so important to ensuring St Basils can keep helping vulnerable young people across the West Midlands – so we would like to say a massive thank you!

Ruby and Aoife also found the experience really rewarding: ‘Never did we imagine we would find ourselves stuck at the top of mountains, or in the midst of a 216km bike ride all in the name of charity… It has pushed us to our limits, but the feeling of accomplishment and overwhelming support has been so uplifting and something we will treasure forever.’

So congratulations Ruby and Aoife on completing Challenge 2016 and raising such an amazing amount to help us prevent youth homelessness!
