Olton Golf Club raise almost £2K for St Basils as their Charity of the year
14 MAY 2015

Our thanks to Olton Golf Club for fundraising for St Basils as their charity of the year! This decision was made by new club president Bruce Wilson (pictured here handing a cheque to Fundraising Officer Steve Rainbow). Bruce explains why he chose St Basils:

Bruce Wilson, President of Olton Golf said:

“I was Captain of Olton Golf Club in 2009/10 and traditionally the Captain chooses a Charity for the year.  My daughter had had some involvement with St Basils and I was very impressed with what they do and I very much felt I would like to support their endeavours.

I was also aware of a number of people who had supported St Basils ‘ ‘Sleep-Out’ and I have had visited one of their hostels.  Consequently, when  I had to find a charity to support, when I was appointed President of Olton Golf Club, St Basils was an obvious choice.

The money comes from a £1 contribution our members make at each Medal Competition.  If they better a figure decided by our Professional, they get their £1 back and win a £1. Otherwise they lose.  Over my time as President we accumulated £1977.”

Fundraising Officer Steve Rainbow (pictured) said: "Our thanks to the Wilson Family for supporting us once again and for choosing us to be the recipients of the Medal Contribution competition. We have several services now in Solihull and this will go towards supporting them".
