After much planning and preparation, Solihull Youth Hub opened their doors on the 3rd April. The Hub is working in partnership with Solihull Community Housing, Solihull Council and provider agencies to meet the needs of young people in Solihull facing homelessness. Following the successful outcomes achieved by Birmingham Youth Hub, St Basils was awarded the contract to provide a Single Point Access service in Solihull; offering a specialist approach for young people in the borough experiencing housing need.

With a two year pilot to deliver the service to 400 young people annually, Solihull Youth Hub has already exceeded predicted numbers of assessments, having achieved over 70 referrals before the first month has ended!

A ‘Welcome Morning’ took place on Wednesday 5th April, offering the chance to all those involved in the build up to see the Hub finally up and running. The event was well attended and the major contributor to several Twitter feeds for the day!

“We would really like to thank everyone involved. It’s an exciting time for me to have joined St Basils at Solihull Youth Hub, but I know there’s a lot of people who pulled out all the stops to make the idea a reality before I started! So, you know who you are… Thank You!!” Lisa Parsons – Support Manager Solihull Youth Hub.

The Hub has received a really warm welcome in Solihull and already has some great partnership developments underway. Young people, aged 16 – 24, referred to the Hub can access other services provided by Trident Reach Youth Promise Plus, the Health Exchange and SIAS (addiction service) on site; in addition to having the expert support of St Basils to overcome their housing crisis. Solihull Youth Hub strives to provide prevention and relief activities towards reducing the number of young people in the borough experiencing or threatened by homelessness.

There are excellent opportunities for volunteers who would like to develop skills or gain an insight in working with St Basils -
