St Basils partnered up with DWP to deliver a series of 2 weeks work experience to 3 young people who will be dealing with opportunities and vacancies provided by DWP. They would then help create a powerpoint presentation that would be shown on the St Basils TV in the waiting area to advertise these jobs to those that are waiting to be seen.
We caught up with Chris – who has recently completed his placement:
‘I wanted to get work experience with St Basils because I thought that this would be something new and I wanted to give it a try. My time at St Basils was good because it gave me a chance to meet new people in a different working environment, staff were friendly and made me feel welcome. I became more confidence in mapping out my route to work and using different modes of transport. Thanks’
Youth Hub Manager Marsha was delighted to be supporting young people gaining crucial work experience. Marsha said:
"Following several months of joint working with the DWP, we were excited when the opportunity arose for us to recruit young people who have received our service, to return to undertake work experience at our Birmingham Youth Hub. Chris was our first placement and during his time with us he was instrumental in developing our first Youth Hub Newsletter, alongside posting exciting job vacancies and training opportunities for young people on our TV, which demonstrated his ability to multi-task and show his creative side. I would like to wish Chris all the best for the future and look forward to welcoming more young people to join our team to gain invaluable work experience."
