Young people from St Basils projects were lucky enough to attend an employability course run by Richie Ellison from TKO (Training, Knowledge & Opportunities).
‘With over 8 years experience in delivering training programs within Government lead contracts, TKO have an enviable team of Olympians, Premier League Footballers, Musicians and Fashion Designers that lead the way in engaging with our amazing Social Inclusion projects that have delivered outstanding results, leading to lasting employment!’
The young people attended the week long course which included visits to local hotels and Birmingham City Football Club to see what employment options were available and how they could get involved. The young people were then invited to the BCFC Recruitment day on Thursday 13th July where jobs with BCFC are on offer ready for the new football season.
Martin Taylor, former Birmingham City Football Club player was the group’s personal mentor, Martin said “I think it’s really good to influence young people and show that there really is opportunities and progression for everyone. It’s important for everyone to get experience and use their experience wisely. It’s not easy to get what you want. To get to where you want takes lots of learnt skills, many of which the young people have built upon over the past week’
The young people have since received a Level 1 in Sports Leadership qualification which will help them with leadership skills including organisation, planning, communication and teamwork through the medium of sport.
Jackie Redding who organised the course said:
“TKO has become an important part of what St Basils are able to offer young people and we have seen excellent results from those who have attended.”
