On behalf of our young people St Basils would like to say a HUGE THANK YOU to the staff, customers and Tamworth Herald readers who rallied to the request from Rebecca of 'Cakes by Rebecca' in Polesworth to donate Christmas gifts for young people who were due to spend Christmas at St Basils rather than with their families.
Chief Executive Jean Templeton who collected the donations was overwhelmed by the response and blown away by the huge volume of donations the shop staff and customers had accumulated in a little over a week.
Jean Templeton said: "The response has been amazing. When Rebecca told me that they would like to help and asked what kind of gifts would be appropriate, I thought it was a lovely thing to do. What I didn't bank on was the determination and generosity of the staff team and just how successful they would be in one week. When I called into the shop on the Saturday before Christmas to pick up the presents, I couldn't believe the amount they'd collected! Thanks to the tremendous generosity of staff, customers, local shopkeepers and Herald readers, the young people who were with us over Christmas had a lovely gift to open, but perhaps more importantly, they knew that there were people out there that care about them!"
Although Christmas is especially important we are in need of donations like this all year round for our emergency accommodation schemes including NightStop, as many of the young people entering these schemes will not have had time to pack. If you have new toiletries or other new items/ unwanted presents to donate please see St Basils in your area for details of how to donate to your local project or if in Birmingham please call Head Office.
