Coventry SleepOutIn one months time people will be 'sleeping out so young people can sleep safe' in Coventry. Our Coventry Sleepout is due to take place on Friday 9th September 2016. This is a sponsored challenge to sleep overnight in a cardboard box and plastic sheeting in the ruins of Coventry Cathedral and will raise money just to support our services in the area.

Over 50 local people have already signed up for this event with more expected in the coming weeks, including the owner of three local McDonalds franchises John Kiely and local Cllr Peter Male (pictured with St Basils Coventry staff member Adam Lewis, the Dean of Coventry Cathedral, the Very Reverend John Witcombe and the Coventry Blaze Mascot).

Whilst still a challenge we are not aiming to emulate rough sleeping with this event. There are toilets on site as well as security through-out the event. There will also be the opportunity to purchase hot food and drinks on the night and Greggs will be providing a free breakfast for all participants in the morning.

This is a great event for groups, families or businesses to take part in so if you are considering it, invite your friends to register too!

Groups can take part in our 'Creative Cardboard Competition', bringing extra cardboard or materials to do something a bit more creative with their cardboard ration for the night. Let's see if we can get any more Coventry entries this year for our 'Creative Cardboard Competition Hall of Fame'!

What's wonderful about this event is we have all sections of the local community representated and taking part. Homelessness can happen to anyone at any time but our services aim to help young people get the support they need before they reach crisis point. We provide a tailored service to assist young people to deal with any problems or barriers before the situation spirals out of control.

So if you want to ensure young people aged 16-25 in Coventry get the support they need to avoid losing their homes or to find safe haven when they do, please consider taking part in this event. It's a great opportunity to meet other local people like you!
