Back to St Basils Sleepouts

Jaffabox Creative Cardboard Competition Hall of Fame

Although SleepOut has a serious purpose, people do really enjoy these events. One of the ways groups have a lot of fun is by taking part in the Jaffabox Creative Cardboard Competition (JCCC), launched in 2012.

Boxmakers Jaffabox in Solihull donate the cardboard boxes keeping our costs down considerably. They provide every individual taking part with a large cardboard box to be their shelter or ‘dwelling’ for the night. Groups who pool their cardboard ration and bring some extra materials to create something a bit more interesting or different could win edible prizes for the group if their dwelling is judged ‘best on the night’ by our young people. Unfortunately we only have 3 prizes to give out on the night, however even if you just miss out on winning a prize, your entry will be immortalized here in our Jaffabox Creative Cardboard 'Hall of Fame', and of course...there's always next year...

Big Birmingham SleepOut at birmingham cathedral

SleepOut First-timers Turley definitely managed to impress with their cardboard version of Birmingham Library, which even lit up - well done to the whole team!

We really loved the decorations and the names on GatenbySanderson's 'Home Sweet Home' Shack! It does look very cosy too!

With a bigger team taking part this year, Skipton who came second in the Competition last year, expanded on their castle design, creating this box fortress!

Amey PLC and HTM Ltd went all out with their cardboard shelter - even featuring glow in the dark windows!

CEF got into the Christmas spirit bringing with them another fantastic cardboard creation this year - Santa's Sleigh! It was even filled with presents and featured a wintry background - another great design.

The Foster Carers Association also got into the festive spirit, our young people especially liked their use of tinsel and fairy lights and decorations that represent what they do -  congratulations!

Another of our favourites, this brilliant cardboard house even featured cut-out windows, a working door and some festive fairy lights!

The University of Birmingham's BioSoc created this amazing igloo, a most innovative design which before this year we have not seen at BIG SleepOut.
Their igloo featured fairy lights and room for over 20 to sleep!

Huge congratulations to Sean Faith and his son William for their brilliant tank creation. A tribute to their favourite football team.

This group from Chelmsley Wood constructed this great fort at Solihull SleepOut 2015. We loved the additional touches - the carpet and the pot plants!

This group (who all drive Landrovers) wanted to create something that represented both them and Solihull at our first ever Solihull SleepOut in March 2015.

Staff from Heart of England Community Foundation created this amazing likeness to the ruins they were sleeping in at our first ever Coventry SleepOut in October 2015.

big sleepout - best of 2015 (last one at our old location)

Our young people (who judge this competition) were very impressed with Skipton's recreation of their logo as their entry at BIG SleepOut!

Tip Top Photography's festive Santa's Grotto entry also impressed.

And here is Alice Johnson, a year older, wiser and with her updated 'creative cottage' design. She added some great drawings to the box on the night!

We loved this giant cardboard hat that this duo brought to BIG SleepOut. Around the rim it says 'Wherever I Lay My Hat That's my Home!'.

CEF really went to town - arriving early to build their 'factory' onsite with some preprinted elements and additional touches including trees and a CEF van.
Their entry was Highly Commended.

This duo,  masquerading as another famous duo should be commended for their two St Basils events as one 'mash up' - taking part in BIG SleepOut whilst promoting 'Bake for St Basils'- marvellous! (We know it's GBBO really...couldn't resist the shameless plug!;) They even brought a cake...!

You might recognise this trio, who have attended 3 St Basils SleepOuts in the last year. Back again with this safe accommodation/ 'handle with care' entry, created on the night.

And here is David Smith with his last ever JCCC entry in 2015 (having done 16 BIG SleepOuts by then). Thank you David Smith for your dedication to this event! You helped raised a lot of money to help homeless young people over the years!

and the best of the rest:
