Starter Packs help increase the chances that our young people will be able to move on successfully. We give them the support, the opportunities and the skills needed to make the transition to independent living, but there are items that we all need to make us feel more comfortable and will help us settle in quicker when moving on to a new place.
Due to a lack of storage space we are looking for a 'complete pack' of items in a box that we can hand on to a young person and will have everything they need in there to get started (plus perhaps a few extras or treats that will be a nice surprise!). Although moving on is the end goal, it can be a daunting time so this will really help our young people and make them feel good about moving on.
Starter Packs are a great initiative for businesses, groups or churches to get involved in, where members bring in what they can spare and then a co-ordinator ensures there is one of each item in each box.
Please see the guidance below for what goes in a Starter Pack.
Linen and bedding must be brand new but other items can be second hand as long as they are clean and not damaged in any way.
Please try and provide a full and complete starter pack in a box and write on what standard it is. This is just so we know that the basics are covered and it is a complete pack, although you may want to add some other treats but that's up to you! By putting the standard it also tells staff what else they'll need to assist with, but all donations of starter packs are hugely appreciated and we know not everyone can afford to buy new items.
Please contact your local project by clicking on the pin closest to your location on the 'St Basils in your area' page. There will be contact details on that page for your nearest project.
However businesses should contact our Fundraising department as 'gifts in kind' from businesses have to be logged separately. Many thanks!

Support Manager Jula Brady who manages our Yardley emergency accommodation scheme said:
“We were donated 2 starter packs just recently and our staff and young residents were really impressed with the quality and thought that had gone into them.
"We gave one to a young person that was moving on to his own flat and he was very grateful as there was everything he needed to be able to cook and make his bed up which was the most important thing to him”.
