St Basils Walk 2019: Cannock Chase Challenge

cannock chase challenge - saturday 22nd June

Start and Finish point: Birches Valley,  Cannock Chase, WS15 2UH

Cannock Chase

Cannock Chase

St Basils Walk is an annual event following the same format every year but in a different location.

This year it is taking place in gorgeous Cannock Chase and the routes we've mapped out will show off this local Gem in all its glory.

St Basils Walk is a team challenge to get from check point to check point around a circular route with just a map section and A5 route booklet to guide you.

Whilst we do time you as some teams like this, it is not a race; you are free to go at your own pace, take in, photograph and explore the sights and enjoy a lovely day out in the countryside with your family/ friends or teammates.

And trust us, even if you think you know Cannock Chase, you don't know it like we do! But the printed guide is yours to keep and use again, so you can discover the hidden side of Cannock Chase again and again!

There are three routes on offer; a 6 mile (easy route) costing £10 pp, a 13 mile (moderately challenging route) costing £20 pp and a 24 mile route (tough route) costing £30 pp.

Teams must have at least 3 people.

Register 5 people and the 6th team member goes free. Dogs are also welcome.

Children of any age are welcome on the 'Easy' route. Under 5s go free.

Included in the registration fee is:

  • Illustrated A5 walk route guide
  • Ordance Survey map section
  • Team photo certificate
  • Free T-Shirt
  • Badge of honour
  • Free bottles of water
  • Free Energy treats at every check point
  • 10% discount for all walkers at the Cannock Chase GO APE!
  • Free Banana at the finish line courtesy of GO APE.
  • 10% off all items in the Cannock Chase Cycle Centre.

    * Both GO APE and Cannock Chase Cycle Centre
are right next to the starting/finishing line, so you can check it all out when you're there.

All our Walks have marshalled check points at regular intervals with free water and snacks, toilets available en route as well as St John Ambulance first aiders and rescue/ transport back to base if needed (hopefully not!).

Our thanks to Gary and all the staff at Grounds Cafe near the start/finish line who are opening up at 6am and closing it at 7pm to accomodate as many walk teams as they can. Go to their menu to see what they can offer before or after your walk.

Following this, and in response to some questions we have had, yes there is a nice pub at the end; the Horns Inn
