The National Youth Reference Group, established 8 years ago, is made up of young people from communities across England who are aged 16-25 and have experienced homelessness
The group exists to help National and Local Government, Local Authorities, the NHS, Universities, charities and housing organisations to engage better with young people and to develop and improve their involvement opportunities. This is grant funded work, in which finance gained will be directed at the training and development needs of the National Youth Reference Group members.
The National Youth Reference Group is available to deliver workshops, presentations, consultations, staff training and Q&A sounding boards for a few hours free of charge. Interested in finding out more or booking us? Visit our CONTACT US page
Facilitated by St Basils, our diverse group of young people will work with you to assist your organisation and help you achieve the outcomes that you need to in order to improve your services to young people or involve them more effectively.
Our ‘full day consultations’ service is an in-depth service where a St Basils staff member will work with you as a consultant, involving a group of young people, to deliver a specific workshop, presentation or interactive exercise as agreed. Facilitated by St Basils staff, our young people will help your staff gain the ‘youth perspective’ and the fresh insight needed to develop new approaches and effectively engage young people today.
NYRG young people are highly trained and professional in their approach. They are well practiced at delivering presentations and have all the skills needed to assist you in achieving your desired outcome.
The young people involved value the opportunity as well and enjoy travelling to new places, meeting with professionals, facilitating discussions and debating varying viewpoints.
You can book NYRG for up to 3 days, let us know your brief and we will deliver a bespoke service.

The brief: Help us engage with young people to develop a Youth Board
“The NYRG have been advising and supporting us in developing a Youth Board. We have been so inspired by their enthusiasm and commitment. They have given us invaluable insight into engaging with young people. The young people from NYRG that we’ve had the pleasure to meet have been polite and professional and are truly those who other young people can look up to….We could not recommend them highly enough, anyone looking to engage with young people should look no further than the NYRG! If we achieve half the success that they have with the development of our Youth Board we will be delighted”

The brief: Training Clinical Psychology students
“It was a pleasure to work in collaboration with the young people from NYRG on our recent teaching day to 3 cohorts of trainee clinical psychologists. The young people involved were professional and passionate; their high energy engaged the trainees well and I was particularly impressed with the confidence with which they spoke both about their own experiences and in facilitating the exercises we'd set up together. From the initial contact the process of planning the young people's contribution to the teaching day through to its delivery was a smooth and professional one. The group were enthusiastic about being involved, happy to be asked to take a lead on certain tasks and creative in how they planned for and delivered these. It was an honour to hear their stories and work with them. Thank you for the opportunity!"
