Feizal is a Local Government Lawyer with a special interest in housing and homelessness. He has over 30 years of experience of working within the public sector working both at local and national level.
Throughout his career Feizal has worked with colleagues across all sectors to develop the law relating to community safety and was recognised for his contribution by being awarded an OBE in 2011.
Until 2014 he was a Head of Law of Birmingham City Council responsible for Housing, homelessness and Community Safety. During his time at Birmingham Feizal worked in partnership with others to develop legal tools to tackle domestic violence and gang related violence. The work in relation to domestic violence received a Municipal Journal Award for Legal Innovation.
After leaving Birmingham, Feizal was appointed as an Assistant Inspector to Dame Louie Casey in her Inspection of Rotherham MBC, he contributed to the inspection Report and to a National Good Practice report on CSE.
Since 2016, Feizal has worked as a Lawyer for a Local Authority in the Midlands undertaking a hybrid civil and criminal law role enabling him to continue to advise on Housing and homelessness law and contribute to policy development. As a consequence of Covid -19 pandemic Feizal ‘s work has, as is the case with many others, been refocused and he has for the last 6 months been working with Public Health Professionals and others to use the law to help reduce the spread of Coronavirus infections and provide guidance to help organisations reopen safely.
Feizal was elected as a Non-executive Director to St Basils Board in February 2016 and took up a position on the Service Delivery & Development Committee. He also assisted with governance visits and recruitment before his appointment as our new Chair of Directors at our September 2020 AGM.
