How to make a Difference

Here at St Basils youth homelessness charity we accommodate over 500 young people every night in our 39 supported accommodation schemes spread across the West Midlands region.

You can make a difference to homeless young people in a very immediate and direct way by making a donation, however big or small, to our cause.  Your help will ensure that we can continue to give young people the opportunity to regain control of their lives.

You can increase your donation by filling out a Gift Aid declaration form, meaning we can claim back the tax on your donation. You can also fill out a Standing Order form for regular giving.

How your money helps us

We know that when you are thinking about donating to a charity, you want to be sure your money is going to something worthwhile.

At St Basils, you aren’t just giving money, you are investing in the future of the West Midlands and the young people who live here.

It costs us £5 per young person per day in order for a young person to stay at a St Basils project. This makes sure we can keep providing the support required to prevent homelessness being a part of their lives again.

The cost of a young person going through our employability program is £125. The skills learned on this program get young people ready for work so that they can make their own money and not have to rely on us or anyone again.

St Basils accommodates over 500 young people every night. We’re short of £5 a day per young person staying in one of our projects. That £5 will help us support each young person out of homelessness and transform their life. Every donation matters.

We make a difference

St Basils was there for me at a time of need, they helped me to get back on my feet and to make progress. They helped my whole wellbeing. More problems would have come from being homeless, if I hadn’t have had that support.

*How is the £5 ask calculated?

If we had no fundraising, our 2019/20 budgeted deficit would be some £855k which works out at £4.80 per day per room.  Adjusted for empty rooms at 6.5%, that equates to a daily shortfall of £5.13 per room, which we have reduced down to £5 for the purpose of making a clear request of what we need to keep going.

Starter Packs

Financial donations are the best way to help us, however if you would prefer to donate second-hand items please contact your local project to see what they are most in need of at the moment.

Please see the Contact page for contact details.

NB: Unfortunately we cannot accept clothes or knitted items of any kind at this time, even if washed. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

Our Birmingham Youth Hub is also often in need of donations of long life food that doesn’t require cooking, for young people in temporary accommodation where sometimes there are no cooking facilities, only a kettle. Breakfast and cereal bars, porridge pots, cuppa soups and pot noodles are therefore much appreciated. Please see their wishlist for the sorts of items they are most in need of:
