In a heartwarming initiative, St Basils treated 30 of the young people to a special day out at Alton Towers on Sunday, November 12th. The day began with a 5K fun run around the beautiful grounds of the park, followed by a chance to enjoy the rides in the theme park. For many, this was their first experience of a theme park, creating lasting memories and smiles all around.
The 5K run wasn’t just about fitness; it symbolized the resilience and determination of the young participants. The finish line marked the start of a different kind of journey – one filled with laughter, excitement, and the joy of trying something new.
One young person said: “Running in Alton Towers was amazing, the weather was awful but knowing we were all getting to go on the rides afterwards kept us all going. I’ve never been to a theme park before, and the whole day felt like a dream. St Basils made us feel special, like we belong. It’s a day I’ll cherish.”
Reflecting on the impact, Victoria, a dedicated member of the St Basils team, commented, “Our goal is to provide holistic support, and days like these contribute to the well-being of the young people we work with. It’s about creating positive experiences and letting them know they are valued.”
The outing was not just a break from the routine; it highlighted the importance of community support in bringing joy and normalcy to the lives of vulnerable young people.
A huge thank you to Run for Charity and the St Basils events team for organising the day out.
