Christmas Cards that Count – St Basils at the German Market

In the heart of Birmingham’s bustling business district, St Basils is transforming the St Philips Cathedral Christmas Market into a haven of hope this festive season. They’re thrilled to announce their return to the Christmas charity chalet, graciously offered by St Philips Cathedral from the 5th to the 10th of December, where the holiday spirit meets the spirit of giving – and they’ve got a festive twist to add to the magic!

St Basils work tirelessly to prevent youth homelessness in the Midlands and support over 4000 vulnerable young people every year who are either experiencing homelessness or teetering on the edge of losing their homes. With the cost-of-living crisis escalating and rent prices soaring, families and young people across the UK are grappling to keep a roof over their heads. St Basils are on a mission to change that and are inviting the community to join in and make a difference.

The Christmas chalet is not just a wooden hut; it’s a festive hub of warmth, generosity, and, of course, some incredible Christmas cards! A pack of 9 beautifully cards designed by award winning agency One Black Bear, are packed with festive cheer, available for just £9. But here’s the real magic – each pack sold helps St Basils provide shelter for one vulnerable young person for a night. It’s more than a card; it’s a message of hope and a tangible way to bring joy to someone who needs it most.

What makes our chalet extra special? The spirit of community! We’re thrilled to announce that volunteers from many local businesses are stepping up to man the Christmas chalet. It’s not just St Basils; it’s a collaborative effort from the heart of Birmingham’s vibrant community. These volunteers aren’t just selling cards; they’re ambassadors of goodwill, spreading cheer and embodying the true essence of the season.

Barrie Hodge Head of fundraising and communications at St Basils, says, “Our volunteers are the unsung heroes of this initiative. Their dedication, coupled with the generosity of local businesses, is making this festive season brighter for many. It’s a true community effort, and we’re grateful for every smiling face that joins us at the chalet. Last year our volunteers managed to sell out of St Basils Christmas cards, the funds raised are needed more than ever and we can’t thank the people who bought them enough for their generosity”.

If you are visiting the Cathedral market at pigeon park between 5th and 10th December don’t forget to pop to the St Basils chalet and pick up a pack of cards and keep a young person safe and warm this Christmas.
