Grant Thornton Birmingham raise over £6K for St Basils as their Charity of the Year

When Grant Thornton Birmingham staff partnered up with St Basils as their Charity of the Year for 2019 they never imagined the impact it would have on them.

James Ryczanowski of Grant Thornton said:

‘Here at Grant Thornton we are passionate about the wider impact we have on society and the difference we can make in our local communities. After reading the West Midlands had seen a 42% increase in homelessness we were keen to help. We chose St Basils as our charity partner after researching the organisation online. We were particularly struck with St Basil’s ethos around the young people they support -not only do they provide accommodation, but much needed support, employability and life skills. Many of these vulnerable people, some from difficult complex backgrounds who were written off by the education system, go on with St Basils support to attain degrees and professional apprenticeships.

It really was inspiring to hear the success stories and the positive impact St Basils has on so many young people’s lives. The work they do to end the cycle of Homelessness is incredibly important. The amazing support we had from the fundraising team and the number of events we we’re invited to really helped to maximise our fundraising efforts, we raised over £6,326. The events included the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, the Big St Basils Birmingham Sleepout, bake sales, raffles and Christmas jumper day. Knowing that it cost £5 per night in extra funds to accommodate a vulnerable young person really put the money we had raised into context and made it very tangible’

Sian Dhillon St Basils head of corporate partnership said:

Successful partnerships are those with a shared vision, ambition and passion. Therefore, we were delighted to partner with Grant Thornton in 2019, a company and its employee’s that actively seek to help solve social issues and whose values align well with our own. We commend them on all their efforts and dedication to achieving our mutual goals to support young people who are homeless or at risk of being homeless and ultimately our mission to eradicate youth homelessness. Not only have they been partnered with us for the past year but they have been supporting us for many years prior, supporting sustainability to ensure that our mission continues. Thank you all so much on behalf of all of us at St Basils and on behalf of all the young people whose lives you have made a difference to.
