Across the UK, and even further afield, we are facing a cost of living crisis.
The high rate of inflation has contributed to a cost crisis – more commonly referred to as a ‘cost of living crisis’. This crisis follows the Covid-19 pandemic, Brexit and a period of prolonged austerity.
On Friday 25th November 2022, young people from our Youth Advisory Board hosted a Time to Talk session on the cost of living crisis from their perspectives.
The main role of the Youth Advisory Board is to ensure that young people are involved in decisions about how our services operate at St Basils, and are being given opportunities to feedback and have their ideas taken on board.
Originally developed in 2005, the YAB are heavily involved in advising on standards, and ensuring they are incorporated into operations across the agency.
In this document, we aim to discuss the ways in which young people feel they will be affected by the cost of living crisis, and what we can do internally, externally, and as a wider community to support vulnerable young people who are at risk of, or experiencing homelessness.
The Cost of Living crisis is a genuine concern, and this is now a standard agenda item in our monthly YAB meeting.
