Youth Voice members assist Government departments with ‘National Conversations’ project on key issues

Youth Voice, the national group that St Basils facilitates, made up of young people who have lived experience of homelessness, have had a busy few months! Youth Voice members from across England have been involved in a ‘national conversations’ project, feeding back to civil servants from a variety of government departments and advising on a number of key issues.

Topics have included a Care Leavers review, with those Youth Voice members who have experienced the Care system. They spoke to civil servants from the Care Leavers Review Team who are part of the Department for Education, and fed back on what works and what doesn’t, and have made some recommendations on what can be improved going forwards too.

Another conversation also took place with The Troubled Families Team, looking at the interventions that go into working with families to prevent youth homelessness, and reviewing these with young people who have had this experience. The young people shared their thoughts from their own personal perspectives and what they feel could be improved.
