St Basils is inviting secondary schools, colleges and youth groups to make a stand!

Join with hundreds of participants for one unforgettable night sleeping out under the open sky so a young person won’t have to do it for real.

This year, we are sleeping out at the iconic Alexander Stadium, so your students / young people can sleep where stars have stepped.

About Us

St Basils provides accommodation and support to 16-25 year olds who are homeless or at risk of homelessness across the West Midlands.
Tragically, youth homelessness remains a major issue with one young person (16-25 years old) facing homelessness every 4 minutes* across the UK.
Events like the Big Sleepout help raise vital funds to stop the cycle of homelessness at the start, as well as helping to spread awareness of the cause to young people who one day, may need our services.

What The Big Sleepout Is – And Isn’t

This is a fun way to raise funds and does not attempt to replicate the harsh reality of true homelessness – we never could.
We work with young people who have experiences of rough sleeping and who advise us on how best to hold the Big Sleepout in an inclusive way.
It is an opportunity to be part of a bigger cause and have a bigger impact, fostering empathy and instilling the importance of gratefulness.

Pricing and Fundraising

Registration for school groups is FREE with a group fundraising target set to £960. A fundraising page will automatically be set up for you, and you will have access to a dedicated fundraiser to help you achieve your goals.

Why £960?

It costs £16 to house one young person for one night, by hitting their fundraising goal your students / young people will have turned their one night into two months of safe accommodation for a young person in need.

Past Participants

“I thought the Big Sleepout would just be a fun night, a laugh with mates decorating a shelter, but being outside in the cold all night made me appreciate my home (and bed!) in a completely different way and I was so grateful when I got home. It made me realise that some people my age don’t have that, and I learned where to point my friends to if they ever needed help or were about to be homeless.” – Matthew*, 2026 Participant (name anonymised)

  • You may like to consider hosting your own Sleepout from within your grounds on a day that better suits your calendar. School playgrounds, Sports halls and Scout huts offer a great alternative where you can tailor your event to suit your groups needs.
  • There are lots of other ways your group could support the work of St Basils, from hosting a bake sale or Wear it Red day to organising a donation drive. Every contribution helps to make a difference to the young people we are working with.
