St Basils assists local authorities through webinars, films, and consultations

Youth Voice is made up of young people aged 16-25 from across England who have lived experience of homelessness. Part of the funding Youth Voice receives from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) is for young people to assist local authorities. The department sent out questionnaires asking Local Authorities where they needed more support and/or knowledge and understanding.

St Basils has been hosting webinars for local authorities recently which include key presentations from St Basils staff and DLUHC representatives as well as short films produced and edited by Youth Voice young people, embedded in the presentations.  The three so far have been titled “What Young People have taught us during Covid”. This is presented by our Chief Executive Jean Templeton who also Chairs the webinars. The second was “Learning through Covid” and the third “Everyone In” which was about the government initiative at the start of the pandemic, which departments and partners were involved and what was achieved.  Over 600 people have attended the webinars.

Youth Voice staff have taken this a step further for interested parties, working with local authority staff to find out what would be most helpful for them to consult young people on. This has led to quite a few conversations and consultations between Youth Voice members and council staff.

This work is part of the Consultation service offered by Youth Voice to a range of organisations that feel they would benefit from a consultation with our young people. Consultations can take place online or in person. Please see the Youth Voice website for more details: Consultation Service | Youth Voice – Speak Up for Change (youth-voice.co.uk).
