On November 24th 2017, kind hearted Brummies will take to the grounds of the iconic Birmingham Cathedral for the annual St Basils SleepOut – raising funds so young people can sleep safe in the West Midlands.
Last year, 700 people took part and raised a staggering £150,000 so that St Basils can maintain their vital services and help prevent youth homelessness. The charity was overwhelmed by the amazing response to last year’s event and hope to repeat it this year with over 200 people already signed up.
And this year, long time SleepOut supporters City Electrical Factors have pledged their continued support for the work that St Basils does by donating £10,000.
St Basils aims, where possible, to help prevent youth homelessness in the West Midlands, advising and assisting over 5,000 young people at risk of homelessness each year and housing 1,200. The charity aims to break the cycle of homelessness and the money raised from this event will go towards supporting its services including helping young people gain the skills they need to get back into education, training and employment so that they can move on successfully, breaking the ‘No home, no job, no home’ cycle of homelessness young people can so easily become trapped in.
Barrie Hodge, Head of Fundraising and Communications at St Basils said:
“The response for last year’s SleepOut event was truly incredible. We were absolutely overwhelmed by the generosity of all those who took part and the people who sponsored them. The support from CEF throughout the years has been marvellous and we are truly delighted they have made this commitment to this iconic event.
Charlie Beddows, Managing Director of CEF, says: “Every year more and more young people are forced to sleep rough on the streets of Birmingham and it is only through the support of St Basil’s that they can begin to turn their lives around. We can all do something to help and raise awareness of the situation, but more importantly to raise funds which will help these young people regain control of their lives.”
