It is with great sadness that we have to let you know of the untimely passing of a former resident at St Basils.
Alan Tien was a resident with St Basils for a number of years and had been a major figure within the incarnations of Youth Voice. He inspired many young people, supporters and policy makers with his charisma and charm. Alan spoke at many events around the UK, including the Chartered Institute of Housing Conference, Homeless Link, National Housing Federation, TPAS, Sitra, Midlands Network for Resident Involvement to mention a few. He also spoke at Youth Homeless Parliament, which he was a founding member of, and at the European Parliament in Brussels where Alan spoke with another young person on Youth Homelessness in England. He trained professionals across the country on how to meaningfully engage young people. He led workshops on Health, Housing and Education across England through our Government Funded work. He Co-facilitated the 2017 NYRG (Now Youth Voice) National Training. Alan was a powerful voice for change and challenging the stereotypes of homelessness.
Alan moved on from St Basils a few years ago and had started a career in London where he was excelling. We are devastated at the curtailment of a young life with so much still to give. Our thoughts are with his family and many friends at this sad time.
